Well folks, this is my very first video. I really didn't mind talking to myself while nobody was home.
For those who have wondered how I distress a lot of my pieces, I hope it is helpful!
I'm entertaining myself over the fact that I'm not actually in the video,
but look like a ghost against the black desk towards the end.

Edited to add: if you are doing large areas of distressing, don't use the solvent. The dullness may be too obvious, even after the clear coat. But, for smaller areas and highlights, knock yourself out!

Hi Christa - Small world...I live in AZ as well, on the eastside in Gilbert!
I ran out and bought some of this alcohol right after you showed the table that you used it on. You also used a car polish, I believe. Is this what you refer to as a clear coat or do you used a polyurethane? I am going to be using this technique on a desk and I would love to know what you top coat with. I would prefer to keep it a satin finish (not to shiny)!

I'm a very hands on learner so this was a great tutorial, Christa! I've been painting furniture for years but it's always nice to see what other techniques are used. Can't wait to see the desk finished. Beautiful!

plus, i do the standard distress with sandpaper, but i use what i call my rapid-fire movement! so it's different from what you do and i found yours really interesting!
